{"id":11547,"date":"2016-05-31T17:46:39","date_gmt":"2016-05-31T15:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.igcat.org\/?p=11547"},"modified":"2017-01-24T12:16:17","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T11:16:17","slug":"igcat-expert-meeting-and-general-assembly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/es\/igcat-expert-meeting-and-general-assembly\/","title":{"rendered":"3rd Annual IGCAT Expert\u2019s meeting: Voices on local food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The third Annual IGCAT Expert\u2019s meeting was held on Tuesday 31 May in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/santpol.cat\/\">Sant Pol de Mar<\/a>, Catalonia, bringing together expert voices from 8 countries from around the globe to share their views on local food and cultural diversity. \u00a0The\u00a0meeting included a round table event on the Transatlantic\u00a0Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), where different opinions on the\u00a0impact\u00a0of free trade agreements\u00a0on local food and cultural diversity were voiced &#8211; including the experiences of Canada and Colombia after signing similar deals with the US.<\/p>\n<p>The experts agreed that IGCAT should play a role in empowering local communities by sharing knowledge and creating\u00a0interdisciplinary training models\u00a0that could be integrated into\u00a0service-learning approaches for regions and cities.<\/p>\n<p>The IGCAT General\u00a0Assembly then took place and elected formally\u00a0Dr Diane Dodd as President for IGCAT.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was held at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/santpol.edu.es\/\">EUHTStPOl<\/a>\u00a0, one of the foremost hospitality schools in Europe and experts were treated to a cooking\u00a0demonstration followed by a wine tasting by resident chef and sommelier\u00a0lecturers. The experts also had the opportunity to take\u00a0a guided tour of modernist buildings in Sant\u00a0Pol de Mar, followed by a welcome reception by Montserrat Garrida,\u00a0Mayoress of Sant Pol de Mar, who has been pioneering in establishing Sant Pol de Mar as a gastronomic and cultural small town of significance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/\">IGCAT<\/a> (International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism) is an international network of experts from gastronomy, culture, art and tourism and other sectors who have an interest in the exciting areas to be developed when there is a convergence between these sectors.
