No matter how tiny a place is when its gastronomy is\u00a0big<\/em>\u00a0enough to delight the palates of the most enthusiastic foodies. The gastronomic wonders of Sant Pol de Mar (Barcelona) were on showcase at the\u00a05th<\/sup>\u00a0Gastronomic Fair of Sant Pol de Mar<\/strong>\u00a0(5\u00aa Mostra Gastron\u00f2mica de Sant Pol de Mar<\/a>) on 15-16 June 2018, to surprise both locals and visitors with delicious flavours and fresh local produce.<\/p>\n

The event, organised by the\u00a0Department of Economic Development, Trade and Fairs<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0Municipality of Sant Pol de Mar<\/a>\u00a0and held annually at the Parc del Litoral in Sant Pol de Mar, gathered twenty among restaurants, establishments, bakeries and producers from the gastronomic scene of the village and placed itself as a must-visit venue for those who look for high-quality, local specialty food, combining culinary tradition and innovation with the best fresh, seasonal ingredients that the local sea and land can offer.<\/p>\n

A great example of how a small rural village can raise gastronomy standards and expectations, the Fair aimed to promote local cuisine and short-chain food products to increase awareness of Sant Pol de Mar\u2019s gastronomy within the wider coastal region of the Maremse (Catalonia) of which the village forms part.<\/p>\n

The event was inaugurated by the Mayoress of Sant Pol de Mar and European Region of Gastronomy Ambassador,\u00a0Montserrat Garrido<\/strong>\u00a0Romera<\/strong> who expressed her gratitude for the great effort that local restaurants, food and wine producers and providers put into the continuous promotion and enhancement of the village\u2019s gastronomy, highlighting the high-quality standards of the local culinary offer.<\/p>\n

Attendees had the chance to taste a great variety of dishes ranging from\u00a0Fideu\u00e0<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Arr\u00f2s negre<\/em>, to sardines, squids, codfish\u00a0carpaccio<\/em>\u00a0and home-made croquettes with local fish, meat or vegetables. A wide offer of desserts from the area completed the picture, with a spotlight on the renowned local strawberries, undisputed protagonists of the event, served raw, as mousse, ice-cream or marmalade. During the two days, the public was entertained with wine and beer tastings, music performances and activities for children.<\/p>\n

Participating establishments included: Restaurant Gran Sol<\/a>; Banys Llu\u00eds<\/a>; Can Talam\u00e0s<\/a>; El Mol\u00ed; Sot del Morer<\/a>; Xaloc\/L\u2019Escaleta; Margot; Voramar<\/a>; El Trencall<\/a>; Nou Grimal<\/a>; El Crost\u00f3<\/a>; Melmelades Calada<\/a>; Sauleda C\u00e0tering i Pastisseria<\/a>; Banys Tarridas<\/a>; La Casa Nostra<\/a>; strawberry producers Fruites i verdures Codina and Can Giralt; Les Barques<\/a>; Milola<\/a>; Celler Can Roda<\/a> winery; and Ginebra Nut<\/a>, from Empord\u00e0 region.<\/p>\n

The event was organised in collaboration with: the\u00a0Diputaci\u00f3 de Barcelona<\/strong>\u00a0(Barcelona Provincial Council<\/a>); the\u00a0University College of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts<\/strong>\u00a0(EUHT StPOL<\/a>), that offered a welcome cocktail to all attendees;\u00a0El Crost\u00f3<\/strong>\u00a0bakery; the\u00a0DO Alella Consortium<\/a>, which promotes wine tourism in the area; the\u00a0Celler de Can Roda<\/strong>; the\u00a0brewing company of Montseny<\/a>, producing local handcrafted and natural beers; and\u00a0Estrella Damm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Municipality of Sant Pol de Mar hosts IGCAT\u2019s offices and is one of the main supporters of the Institute, who was officially invited to attend the event to further consolidate the existing cooperation.<\/p>\n
