And increasingly our regions are looking for local solutions to tackle urgent global challenges that jeopardise regional biodiversity and the environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That is why themes on sustainability such as the <strong>World Bee Day<\/strong> and <strong>Eliminating Plastics<\/strong> were among the main focuses of the <strong>15<sup>th<\/sup> European Region of Gastronomy Platform meeting<\/strong>, held in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/galway-west-of-ireland-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galway-West of Ireland, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2018<\/a>, on 27-29 November 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In particular, Platform partners gathered to <strong>share local good practises<\/strong> and to propose possible <strong>joint actions<\/strong> that can contribute to the safeguard of the world bee population and encourage the reduction of plastics in favour of more sustainable alternatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>authentication of local artisan production<\/strong> was also dealt with, exploring the values and accreditation systems used in the different regions to label regional craft and how these support local small producers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, the regions discussed opportunities to develop <strong>joint projects<\/strong> further such as the <strong>Food Film Menu<\/strong>, the <strong>Top Food Experience<\/strong>, and the <strong>Local Food Gift Challenge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the meeting, representatives from the European Regions of Gastronomy had also the chance to visit and learn from local producers and entrepreneurs in Galway-West of Ireland region selected as local best practises in sustainable farming, short supply chains and championing local, innovation on tradition, innovative tourism, and linking urban and rural. Among them: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenearthorganics.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green Earth Organics<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefriendlyfarmer.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Friendly Farmer<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brownestuam.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brownes Restaurant<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.micildistillery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Micil Distillery<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mungomurphyseaweed.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mungo Murphy&#8217;s Seaweed Co<\/a>.; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.killaryfjordshellfish.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Killary Fjord Shellfish<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loughinaghlodgehotel.ie\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lough Inagh Lodge<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kylemoreabbey.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kylemore Abbey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meeting gathered the awarded European Regions of Gastronomy and welcomed four observer regions interested in a future bid for the title: Balearic Islands (Spain); Rogaland County (Norway); Terra di Marca (Italy); and Bra\u0219ov County (Romania).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About the European Region of Gastronomy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Candidate and awarded Regions of Gastronomy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0from Europe, guided by\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IGCAT<\/a><\/strong>, are working together to raise awareness about the importance of their cultural and food uniqueness and share the long-term aim to: promote a better quality of life in European regions; highlight distinctive food cultures; educate for better health and sustainability; nurture creativity; improve tourism standards; and stimulate gastronomic innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>About IGCAT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0is a non-profit institute established in 2012, working with regional stakeholder consortiums in the fields of gastronomy, culture, arts and tourism. It counts on the expertise of a worldwide\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/experts\/global-experts-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">network of experts<\/a>\u00a0and works in partnership with specialised intergovernmental organisations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0aims to<strong>\u00a0empower local communities<\/strong>\u00a0by guiding, facilitating, and supporting leaders in regions to understand the potential of their distinct food, culture, arts and sustainable tourism assets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0provides the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/projects\/region-of-gastronomy-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Region of Gastronomy Award<\/a>\u00a0and is the official secretariat for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/projects\/region-of-gastronomy-award\/european-region-of-gastronomy-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Region of Gastronomy Platform<\/a>.
