The short film Mayonnaise, The Universal Sauce<\/strong> from Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>, has been awarded 3nd prize<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0Food Film Menu 2020<\/a>, organised by\u00a0IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0in collaboration with the\u00a0World Regions of Gastronomy Platform<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Produced by the Island Council of Menorca<\/strong> (Consell Insular de Menorca), this short film unveils Menorca\u2019s gastronomic secrets and narrates the origins and recipe of mayonnaise, a globally renown sauce that was named after Menorca\u2019s capital city, Ma\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Shortlisted\u00a0by an international jury of IGCAT experts<\/a>\u00a0as the\u00a0Best Food Film showcasing a<\/strong>\u00a0Historical Food Route<\/strong>, Mayonnaise, The Universal Sauce<\/em> was the third most voted short film out of 7 finalists of the Food Film Menu 2020 in a people\u2019s vote launched on social media by IGCAT on 4-7 September 2020.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis film tells the little known and surprising history of mayonnaise – or should I say Mahonesa? Its story is beautifully told through pictures and the twists and turns of history, where Menorca plays its crucial role\u201d affirmed jury member Mai Damgaard Rasmussen<\/strong> at the first selection stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amazing story of mayonnaise, under the current perspective of who prepares it with local ingredients by following traditional processes. A great storytelling!\u201d stated jury member Alessio Cavicchi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the Food Film Menu 2020 winners took place during the Opening Ceremony of\u00a0Kuopio<\/strong>\u00a0(Finland) as\u00a0European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-2021<\/a>, held on 11 September 2020 and live streamed on YouTube for the international audience.<\/p>\n

Levi Dev\u017eej<\/strong>\u00a0 from\u00a0Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021<\/a>, shortlisted in the\u00a0European Young Chefs <\/em>category,\u00a0was awarded Overall Winner of the Food Film Menu 2020, while second prize went to\u00a0Home of Nordic Flavours 2020<\/strong> from Trondheim-Tr\u00f8ndelag, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>, winner of the\u00a0Regions of Gastronomy<\/em>\u00a0category.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Food Film Menu<\/strong>\u00a0aims to collect short films about awarded and candidate Regions of Gastronomy that help raise awareness about the importance of food and cultural diversity for community well-being and a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n
