The short film An Apple, a Bee and a Tree \u2013 \u010ceberol\u2019ca<\/em><\/strong> from Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021<\/a>, is the winner of the Best Young Director<\/strong> category of IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nature, tradition, heritage and sustainability. All these elements have come together in this film which is a new chapter in the story of an old fruit variety, the sevni\u0161ka vo\u0161\u010denka<\/em> (the Sevnica waxed apple). The film presents the sustainable \u010ceberol\u2019ca<\/em> product, which is a natural and reusable food wrapper, part of the An Apple, a Bee and a Tree<\/em> package, which won the Most Ecological Choice award in IGCAT\u2019s World Food Gift Challenge 2023. Set in a scenography Slovenian landscape, the story focuses on a recipe that includes the Sevnica waxed apple and incorporates it into the use of \u010ceberol\u2019ca<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Produced and directed by Jani Leskovec <\/strong>for Tja\u0161a Mesinger<\/strong> (owner of \u010ceberol\u2019ca<\/em> and also writer of the short film), An Apple, a Bee and a Tree \u2013 \u010ceberol\u2019ca <\/em>was selected by an international jury of IGCAT experts<\/strong> as the best short film in the Young Directors category for representing the excellent work of a young filmmaker at the early stages of his directing career, focusing on food and sustainability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe photography of this film is extremely artistic and qualitative. Lights, colours, clothing and landscapes seem to be extracted directly from a historic movie,\u201d stated jury member Virginie Br\u00e9geon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can see a beautiful imagery and colour grading in this film that depicts the multiple use of beeswax wraps to replace plastic wraps, as well as an amazing craft git related to food. Nice storyline and strong relationship with food products from the area and the local cuisine,\u201d affirmed jury member Robert Palmer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0international jury<\/strong>\u00a0of IGCAT\u2019s International Food Film Menu 2023 included:\u00a0Mai Damgaard Rasmussen<\/a>\u00a0(Denmark), Director of the FoodFilmFestival of Aarhus and Chair of the jury;\u00a0Llu\u00eds Valent\u00ed<\/a>, Director of the Girona Film Festival (Spain);\u00a0Irene Giannakopoulos<\/a>, Founder and President of Amorgos International Film Festival (Greece);\u00a0Robert Palmer<\/a>\u00a0(Scotland), independent consultant\u00a0 and former Director of Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage at the Council of Europe;\u00a0Virginie Br\u00e9geon de Saint-Quentin<\/a>, expert in design, marketing and artistic direction (France); and\u00a0Ra\u00fal Torres Ajiaco<\/a>, Communications Manager and Digital Content Creator at IGCAT (Colombia).<\/p>\n

An online\u00a0public\u2019s vote<\/a>\u00a0is open (10-17 October 2023) to select the\u00a0Public\u2019s Favourite Film<\/strong>, that will be announced together with\u00a01st<\/sup>, 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0and 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0Prize<\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a035th Girona Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0(Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy awarded 2025) on\u00a011 November 2023.<\/p>\n
