Of those, five cereals (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/seeds\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en-GB&amp;q=http:\/\/www.fao.org\/seeds\/en\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1467364513726000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGGMwW-YLNunHz0Tvtc7dJUfjSsjg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rice, wheat, maize, millet and sorghum<\/a>) provide 60 percent of mankind\u2019s energy intake. Yet a bewildering array of those outmoded varieties remain accessible, many lying frozen in gene banks.
