{"id":18883,"date":"2019-07-08T15:13:31","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T13:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/?p=18883"},"modified":"2019-07-08T15:13:31","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T13:13:31","slug":"the-s-plan-smart-strategies-for-sustainable-regions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/fr\/the-s-plan-smart-strategies-for-sustainable-regions\/","title":{"rendered":"The S Plan &#8211; Smart strategies for sustainable regions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The protection and promotion of <strong>local cultural and food diversity<\/strong> is increasingly becoming a vital means to nurture <strong>sustainable and inclusive growth<\/strong> at regional level.<\/p>\n<p>This is the powerful message of <a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/24-THE-S-PLAN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The S Plan<\/em><\/a>, where President of IGCAT, <a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/team\/dr-diane-dodd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Diane Dodd<\/a> warns about the risks of losing our <strong>biodiversity<\/strong> and the century-long traditions and practices related to it, while highlighting the urgency to capitalise on our unique food and cultural resources to foster sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>The article explains how \u201c<strong>eco, creative and living-it tourism<\/strong>\u201d represents a possible solution to support local landscapes, cultures, traditions and community well-being, while counteracting the pressures of globalisation that increasingly tend to homogenise our world.<\/p>\n<p>By providing outstanding examples from the <strong>Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong>, Dr. Diane Dodd demonstrates the effectiveness of implementing the so-called <strong><em>S Plan<\/em><\/strong> (Sector convergence; Storytelling; Strategic planning; Sustainability; SME development and the Surprise and shine) to create vibrant and innovative opportunities for <strong>sustainable experiences\u2019 development<\/strong> in the regions.<\/p>\n<p>Originating at the convergence of culture, tourism, gastronomy, arts and many other sectors, these <strong>creative experiences<\/strong> can cater for the needs of \u201cthe next generation of travellers\u201d who happen to be \u201cmore discerning, more informed, more educated and more selective than the past generation,\u201d while supporting a <strong>more balanced tourism development<\/strong> that will benefit the local communities as well.<\/p>\n<p><em>The S Plan<\/em> has been recently published in the book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldscientific.com\/worldscibooks\/10.1142\/10809\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Creating and Managing Experiences in Cultural Tourism<\/em><\/a> (World Scientific, July 2019) edited by IGCAT Expert, <a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/team\/dr-daniela-angelina-jelincic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daniela Jelin\u010di\u0107<\/a>, from the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO) in Zagreb (Croatia), and <strong>Prof. Yoel Mansfeld<\/strong>, from the University of Haifa (Israel).<\/p>\n<p>Volume 1 of the <em>Managing Cultural Tourism: A Sustainability Approach<\/em> series, the book focuses on the experience economy and provides theoretical and practical background to apply this concept to sustainable cultural tourism through contributions from distinguished authors in different fields.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About IGCAT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0aims to<strong>\u00a0empower local communities<\/strong>\u00a0by raising awareness of the importance to safeguard and promote distinct food, culture, arts and sustainable tourism assets.
