This together with the rise of an amazing gastronomic movement in recent years, the dedication and passion of all the stakeholders, the creativity and talent on the island, the culture and heritage is\u00a0why Menorca has been selected as European Region of Gastronomy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After delivering their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Minorca-2022-ENGLISH.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bid book<\/a>\u00a0on 15 September 2019 and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/menorca-presents-bid-to-be-european-region-of-gastronomy-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">public bid presentation<\/a>\u00a0in Brussels on 9 October 2019, Menorca welcomed an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/menorcas-sustainable-path-to-support-local-gastronomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">international jury\u00a0of experts<\/a> on 28-30 November 2019 who recommended the region for the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy means of this acknowledgement, we aim to protect and promote our food and cultural diversity as key to the future of our economy\u201d affirmed President of Menorca Island Council and of <em>Fundaci\u00f3 Foment del Turisme de Menorca<\/em>, <strong>Susana Mora<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed the collective and inclusive nature of the European Region of Gastronomy project in Menorca and highlighted \u201cthe network of producers, professionals and businesses that day by day build Menorca\u2019s gastronomic identity and revitalise the local economy through tradition, innovation and sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u201d she added \u201cwe start a new, challenging journey to make our gastronomy a differentiating asset playing a decisive role in our economy, as well as in our territory, well-being and health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The award ceremony took place in the framework of a gastronomic feast organised to promote local food and popular culture at the Claustre del Carme in Mahon, one of the gastronomic symbols of the island. The event included several activities such as conferences, cooking shows and tastings combined with local poetry and improvisation.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrations gathered representatives from the 12 founding stakeholders of Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022: Consell Insular de Menorca &#8211; Fundaci\u00f3 Foment del Turisme de Menorca; Asociaci\u00f3n de Bares y Cafeter\u00edas de Menorca; Asociaci\u00f3n Hotelera de Menorca; Confederaci\u00f3n de Asociaciones Empresariales de Balears; Confraries de Pescadors de Ma\u00f3, Ciutadella y Fornells; Sa Cooperativa del Camp; Associaci\u00f3 de Periodistes i Escriptors Gastron\u00f2mics de les Illes Balears; Fra Roger Gastronomia i Cultura; Escoles d\u2019Adults de Menorca; y Escola de Turisme de Menorca.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the European Region of Gastronomy\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Candidate and awarded Regions of Gastronomy<\/a>\u00a0from Europe, guided by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IGCAT<\/a>, are working together to raise awareness about the importance of their cultural and food uniqueness; stimulate creativity and gastronomic innovation; educate for better nutrition; improve sustainable tourism standards; highlight distinctive food cultures; and strengthen community well-being.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About IGCAT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0aims to<strong>\u00a0empower local communities<\/strong>\u00a0by raising awareness of the importance to safeguard and promote distinct food, culture, arts and sustainable tourism assets. This is essential to balance against globalised food trends that are impacting on our planet, health and local economies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0is a non-profit institute established in 2012, working with regional stakeholder consortiums in the fields of gastronomy, culture, arts and tourism.
