{"id":22142,"date":"2020-09-11T10:33:38","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T08:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/?p=22142"},"modified":"2020-12-11T10:42:19","modified_gmt":"2020-12-11T09:42:19","slug":"winners-of-the-1st-european-food-gift-challenge-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/fr\/winners-of-the-1st-european-food-gift-challenge-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Winners of the 1st European Food Gift Challenge announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Food and cultural uniqueness of the European Regions of Gastronomy was celebrated at the <strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> European Food Gift Challenge<\/strong>, a competition organised by IGCAT to award local craftsmanship related to food, that took place in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/kuopio-2020-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-2021<\/a>, on 10 September.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by\u00a0<strong>Savonia University of Applied Sciences<\/strong>, the competition gathered a total of 21\u00a0<strong>high-quality food and food-related crafts products<\/strong>\u00a0that are locally produced and representative of the different regional gastronomies.<\/p>\n<p>With a view to support and give international visibility to local producers who manufacture unique items related to the regions\u2019 culinary traditions, the following <strong>10 products<\/strong> were selected as <strong>European Food Gifts 2020<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Willimaku gift collection<\/strong> (Kuopio) including spruce sprout syrup, dandelion buds \u201ccapers\u201d and non-alcoholic sparkling drink with meadowsweet taste by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.willimaku.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willimaku company<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shipping basket from Tr\u00f8ndelag<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/trondheim-trondelag-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trondheim-Tr\u00f8ndelag, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>) including a variety of local artisanal products ranging from cheeses produced in <a href=\"https:\/\/ysteri.no\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gangstad Cheese-Factory<\/a>, to marmalade and honey from cooperating companies;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Talwimaku Christmas present<\/strong> by Willimaku company (Kuopio) including Mulled wine concentrate and mulled wine marmalade;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Creamy honey with Isabella grapes<\/strong> by Mr.Bee, Nika Poslek s.p. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/slovenia-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organic honey<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/virtalan-tila.fi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Virtalan tila farm<\/a> (Kuopio);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegan hazelnut butter<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmetijakosec.si\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Farm Ko\u0161ec<\/a> (Slovenia);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Canned garlic pike<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haapaniemenmatkailu.fi\/en\/haapaniemi-garlic-pike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Haapaniemi Travel<\/a> (Kuopio);<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Talla-Coques<\/em><\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syfartesanabruixa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Syf-Artesana<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/menorca-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>) a pastry-cutter made of wild olive wooden tool used to cut <em>coca<\/em> (typical pastry from the island);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clay hot pot holder<\/strong> (Slovenia);<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Pastisset<\/em><\/strong><strong> flower biscuit cutter earrings<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuriadeya.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">N\u00faria Dey\u00e0<\/a> (Menorca).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Officially announced at the <strong>Open Ceremony of Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-2021<\/strong> held on 11 September, winning products will receive an official certificate from IGCAT and will be given international visibility in a dedicated section on IGCAT\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>Due to travel restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the jury of experts for the competition included both local members from Finland, who were able to attend in person and focused on the sensorial appraisal of the products, as well as international experts from IGCAT and the Regions of Gastronomy, who evaluated the products online assessing their compliance with criteria such as <strong>sustainability<\/strong> of product and package, <strong>storytelling<\/strong>, <strong>uniqueness<\/strong>, <strong>innovation<\/strong> on tradition and <strong>connection with the region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The jury was chaired by <a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/team\/jacinta-dalton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacinta Dalton<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/galway-west-of-ireland-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galway-West of Ireland, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2018<\/a>) and included international members <a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/team\/joana-santos-portugal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joana Santos<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/minho-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minho, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2016<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/team\/jesper-borg-christensen-denmark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jesper Christensen<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/central-denmark-region-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aarhus-Central Denmark, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2017<\/a>), as well as local jury members: <strong>Raisa Leinonen<\/strong> (Savonia University of Applied Sciences); <strong>Marko Rossi<\/strong> (Kalevala Spirit); <strong>Sirpa Karppi<\/strong> (K-Market Neulamuikku); <strong>Elena Chiksoeva<\/strong> (Lapland Hotel); and <strong>Sinikka M\u00e4\u00e4tt\u00e4l\u00e4<\/strong> (Expert on food production education and influencer of Savonian food culture).<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the World Regions of Gastronomy\u00a0Platform\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/world-regions-of-gastronomy-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Candidate and awarded World Regions of Gastronomy<\/a>, guided by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IGCAT<\/a>, are working together to raise awareness about the importance of their cultural and food uniqueness; stimulate creativity and gastronomic innovation; educate for better nutrition; improve sustainable tourism standards; highlight distinctive food cultures; and strengthen community well-being.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About IGCAT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IGCAT<\/strong>\u00a0aims to<strong>\u00a0empower local communities<\/strong>\u00a0by raising awareness of the importance to safeguard and promote distinct food, culture, arts and sustainable tourism assets.
