{"id":23320,"date":"2021-08-02T13:51:44","date_gmt":"2021-08-02T11:51:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/?p=23320"},"modified":"2021-08-02T13:51:44","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T11:51:44","slug":"winners-of-the-2nd-european-food-gift-challenge-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/fr\/winners-of-the-2nd-european-food-gift-challenge-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Winners of the 2nd European Food Gift Challenge announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Food and cultural uniqueness of the European Regions of Gastronomy was celebrated at the <strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup> European Food Gift Challenge<\/strong>, a competition organised by IGCAT to award local craftsmanship related to food, that took place in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/coimbra-region-2021-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coimbra Region, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021-2022<\/a>, on 30 July 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the <strong>Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region<\/strong> (CIM Coimbra Region) in Condeixa-a-Nova, the competition gathered a total of <strong>25 high-quality local food and food-related crafts products<\/strong> that were pre-selected in local competitions across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>With a view to support and give international visibility to local producers who manufacture unique items related to the regions\u2019 culinary traditions, three overall winners were selected:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> prize<\/strong>, <strong><em>Have a tec?<\/em> <\/strong>by Sa Cooperativa del Camp (Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022;<\/li>\n<li><strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup> prize<\/strong>, <strong><em>Coimbra Clarissas Pudding<\/em><\/strong> by restaurant Cordel Maneirista (Coimbra Region, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021-22);<\/li>\n<li><strong>3<sup>rd<\/sup> prize<\/strong>, <strong><em>Kauraparta bread flour mix set<\/em> <\/strong>by Kauraparta (Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-2021);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the following <strong>7 products<\/strong> were awarded as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Most Creative Branding<\/strong>, <strong><em>Karst Commons in a Mug<\/em> <\/strong>by Kras Carso Food Tour (Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most Sustainable Packaging<\/strong>, <strong><em>Mortar and pestle<\/em> <\/strong>by Ovidi Arader (Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Storytelling<\/strong>, <strong><em>Penacova\u2019s Flower Traditional Toothpicks<\/em> <\/strong>by Maria de F\u00e1tima Concei\u00e7\u00e3o Lopes (Coimbra Region, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021-22);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Tasting<\/strong>, <strong><em>Ratafia Raiers Pearls<\/em> <\/strong>by Licors Portet (Catalonia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2016);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Promotion of the Region<\/strong>, <strong><em>Easter Basket<\/em><\/strong> (Minho, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2016);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Innovation on Traditional Design<\/strong>, <strong><em>WoodLoveStone Collection<\/em><\/strong> (Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Contemporary Interpretation of Traditional Craft<\/strong>, <strong><em>Ginets<\/em> <\/strong>by Es Fangueti (Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Due to safety restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the jury of experts for the competition included both local members from Portugal, who were able to attend in person and focused on the sensorial appraisal of the products, as well as international experts from IGCAT and the Regions of Gastronomy, who evaluated the products online, assessing their compliance with criteria such as <strong>sustainability<\/strong> of product and package, <strong>storytelling<\/strong>, <strong>uniqueness<\/strong>, <strong>innovation <\/strong>on tradition and <strong>connection with the region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The jury was chaired by <strong>Dr. Diane Dodd<\/strong>, President of IGCAT who noted that &#8220;this competition contributes to Europe&#8217;s climate change solutions given that consumers need to be encouraged to eat sustainably farmed\/produced products. The storytelling and uniqueness of each product comes from the historical meaning that each hold within their regions and therefore all the products presented are in fact winners because they are all innovating to encourage future generations to keep food traditions alive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the jury included <strong>Jaume Gomila<\/strong>, Executive Board member of IGCAT; <strong>Prof. Dezs\u0151 Kov\u00e1cs<\/strong>, IGCAT Expert from Hungary; <strong>David Apap Agius<\/strong>, Mayor of Gharb on Gozo Island; <strong>Maria Miguel Man\u00e3o<\/strong>, Marketing Director of Adega Cooperativa de Cantanhede and\u00a0Chef Ambassador of Wines of Coimbra Region; <strong>Carmen Soares<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the University of Coimbra (Faculty of Letters); and <strong>Jorge Fernandes<\/strong>, chef and teacher at Professional School of Viticulture and Enology of Bairrada.<\/p>\n<p>Winning products were announced at an award ceremony livestreamed on Coimbra Region\u2019s Facebook page for the general public and that saw the online participation from representatives across the European Region of Gastronomy Platform.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the European and World Regions of Gastronomy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/world-regions-of-gastronomy-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Candidate and awarded European and World Regions of Gastronomy<\/a>, guided by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IGCAT<\/a>, are working together to strengthen food security through the celebration of distinctive food cultures; create employment by stimulating creativity and gastronomic innovation; nourish children and adults through culinary and cultural education; drive environmental sustainability in tourism, hospitality and agricultural sectors; support balance and sustainable tourism practices; highlight and support expertise from within rural and urban communities, creating connections and sharing good practises; and contribute to community health and well-being.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About IGCAT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>IGCAT aims to empower local communities by raising awareness of the importance to protect and promote distinct regional food, culture, arts and natural assets as part of sustainable and balanced tourism and development strategies.
