{"id":24709,"date":"2022-04-08T11:30:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T09:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/?p=24709"},"modified":"2022-04-08T11:30:33","modified_gmt":"2022-04-08T09:30:33","slug":"winners-of-the-world-food-gift-challenge-2022-awarded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test-oldwebsite.igcat.org\/fr\/winners-of-the-world-food-gift-challenge-2022-awarded\/","title":{"rendered":"Winners of the World Food Gift Challenge 2022 awarded!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The best and most unique food and food-related gifts from candidate and awarded World and European Regions of Gastronomy were awarded at IGCAT\u2019s World Food Gift Challenge 2022, held on 7 April at the <strong>Centre Artesanal<\/strong> de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanregionofgastronomy.org\/platform\/menorca-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In celebration of the food and cultural diversity of the World and European Regions of Gastronomy, the international competition gathered a total of <strong>33 high-quality local food and food-related crafts products<\/strong> that were pre-selected at a regional level.<\/p>\n<p>With a view to support and give international visibility to local producers who manufacture fine, one-of-a-kind items related to the regions\u2019 culinary traditions, three overall winners were selected:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1st prize<\/strong>, <strong><em>This is Coimbra &#8211; Food Stories<\/em><\/strong> by Cordel Maneirista (Coimbra Region, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021-22);<\/li>\n<li><strong>2nd prize<\/strong>, <strong><em>Saffron Island Gin<\/em><\/strong> by iSafra (Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022);<\/li>\n<li><strong>3rd prize<\/strong>, <strong><em>Luomus Koivu Plate <\/em><\/strong>by Ville Naumanen (Saimaa, European Region of Gastronomy candidate 2024);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the following <strong>7 products<\/strong> were awarded as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Most Creative Branding<\/strong>, <strong><em>FINNA Cloudberry<\/em><\/strong> by Lignell &amp; Piispanen (Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-21)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most Sustainable Packaging<\/strong>, <strong><em>Ilmatar Midsummer Honey<\/em><\/strong> by Ilmatar Natural (Kuopio, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2020-21);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Storytelling<\/strong>, <strong><em>FAMiLY BEEZ &#8211; Organic Wildflower honey in gift box<\/em><\/strong> by THE FAMiLY BEEZ &#8211; Rotas Son &amp; Daughter (South Aegean, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2019);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Tasting<\/strong>, <strong><em>Gold from The Island Kingdom<\/em><\/strong> by Smaker fra \u00d8yriket (Trondheim-Tr\u00f8ndelag, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Promotion of the Region<\/strong>, <strong><em>O. Saimaa Delicacy Gift Box<\/em><\/strong> by Kenk\u00e4vero, Vavesaari, Heikkil\u00e4, J\u00e4rvi-Suomen Kalatuote and Kalakontti (Saimaa, European Region of Gastronomy candidate 2024);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Innovation on Traditional Design<\/strong>, <strong><em>Rosette \u2013 Svarica \u2013 The Flower of Life <\/em><\/strong>by Andreja Aljan\u010di\u010d Povirk (Slovenia, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2021);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Contemporary Interpretation of Traditional Craft<\/strong>, <strong><em>Chicory soap<\/em><\/strong> by Antheya (Hauts-de-France, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2023).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The competing products were evaluated by an international jury of experts from IGCAT and the Regions of Gastronomy. Besides the sensorial appraisal of the products, including taste, touch and usefulness, the panel assessed their compliance with criteria such as <strong>sustainability<\/strong> of product and package, <strong>storytelling<\/strong>, <strong>uniqueness<\/strong>, <strong>innovation on tradition<\/strong> and <strong>connection with the region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The jury was chaired by <strong>Omar Valdez<\/strong>, Executive Board member of IGCAT, who noted that \u201cthe jury had an intense discussion to choose the winning products.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ideal food gift should bring joy, evoke emotions and be an experience both for the person who buys it and the person who receives it. Very often, this is more important than a flamboyant presentation\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the jury included <strong>Diane Dodd PhD<\/strong>, President of IGCAT; <strong>Dr. Edith M. Szivas<\/strong>, Vice-President of IGCAT; <strong>Ariadna Ribas<\/strong>, Wine &amp; Food Tourism Brand Manager at the Catalan Tourist Board; and <strong>Davide Bruno<\/strong>, Director of the Marine Protected Area of Ustica Island. They were joined by Paris-based designer, <strong>In\u00e8s Olympe Mercadal<\/strong>, who is one of the official ambassadors of Menorca, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In\u00e8s Olympe Mercadal <\/strong>highlighted that the products in the competition had a high level of excellence and stressed the importance of creating collaborations between gastronomy, craftsmanship, creativity and design.<\/p>\n<p>Winning products were announced at a gala event held on 7 April 2022 at <a href=\"https:\/\/aquamaritim.com\/en\/reservation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aqua Mar\u00edtim Restaurant<\/a> in Mahon and attended by representatives of the candidate and awarded World and European Regions of Gastronomy, who gathered in Menorca to celebrate the 24th IGCAT Best Practices Platform Meeting (4-7 April 2022).<\/p>\n<p>The event was moderated by journalist, <strong>Clara Aymam\u00ed<\/strong> and counted with the presence of President of the Menorca\u2019s Councillor for Economy, <strong>Josep Pastrana<\/strong>; Insular Director of Economy, <strong>Pilar Pons<\/strong>; and Director of the Fundaci\u00f3 Foment de Turisme de Menorca, <strong>Elena Costa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the World Food Gift Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>IGCAT\u2019s World Food Gift Challenge contributes to the\u00a0<strong>protection and promotion of local food and cultural diversity<\/strong>\u00a0by instilling local pride into local traditions and acknowledging outstanding products from local culinary cultures.<\/p>\n<p>The official ambassador for the project is <strong>Ana Ro\u0161<\/strong>, head chef and co-owner of 2-Michelin-starred restaurant Hi\u0161a Franko and 2017 World Best Female Chef. \u201cI salute the World Food Gift Challenge focusing on gastronomy on the larger point of view. We need to support more the work of small-scale producers.
